How Often Should You Groom Your Dog in Houston?

Coat type comes first

A short-coated lab and a doodle do not live on the same schedule. Curly and double coats mat and hold heat, so they need a groom every four to six weeks. Short coats can stretch to eight or more, mostly for a bath and nails.

Houston makes it faster

Humidity and long warm months mean more shedding and more time outside. A dog that plays in the yard picks up more dirt and loose coat than the calendar suggests, so most Houston dogs land on the shorter end of their range.

When to call

If the coat is starting to mat behind the ears or under the legs, or the nails click on the floor, it is time. We can look at your dog and tell you a schedule that fits its coat instead of guessing.
